History of St Gabriel's Church
Early Days and First Buildings
The first Church of England service in Cricklewood happened in 1891. It was led by Reverend George Marsh Clibborn. This first service took place in a hat shop! Later, meetings were held in a local school.
In 1891, a special building called the 'Iron Church' was put up. It was on the same spot where St Gabriel's stands today. This Iron Church opened for worship in that same year. A bigger church was built next to it and opened in 1897. More building work was finished in 1906.
Church Halls and Community Space
A large church hall was built on Anson Road. After World War II, this hall was sold to the local council. The council then sold it to a foundation for community use. Today, the church has a smaller hall. It is located next to the old one, on Chichele Road.
Church Organ and Location
St Gabriel's used to have a special organ. Many organists and choirs used it for music. The organ has since been moved. This created more space for storage inside the church.
The church is near Willesden Green tube station. It is in an area with many homes and different cultures.
Church Leaders
The current vicar of St Gabriel's is James Yeates. He has been leading the church since January 2020.
Before him, Jane Morris was the vicar. She retired in 2018. In 2010, Jane Morris was chosen to represent the Diocese of London. She joined the General Synod of the Church of England, which is like a parliament for the church. She also supported a statement for unity. This was against a protest planned by a group at a Muslim charity event.

Brent Council, the local government, praised this work in 2011. The project helps people manage their debts. It helps them organize payments and find ways to reduce what they owe. The Council noted that anyone can get help, even if they are not Christian.
Debbie Thomas is the manager of St Gabriel's CAP centre. She leads this important project.
