Discover St James's Church

This church is really special. It's officially known as a Grade I listed building. This means it's considered one of the most important historic buildings in England and is protected by law. It's like a national treasure!

Even though it's an old church, it's not used for regular church services anymore. It's what we call a "redundant church." But don't worry, it's not forgotten! The Churches Conservation Trust looks after it. This amazing group works to save historic churches that are no longer in use, making sure they stay safe and sound for everyone to enjoy. St James's Church was handed over to the Trust in 1979.

While some parts of the church are still the original very old structure from the Middle Ages, the tower was rebuilt in 1791. This was part of a bigger project to fix up and improve the church.

A Look Inside

When you step inside St James's Church, you'll notice some interesting features. It has Georgian sash windows, which are a style of window popular in the 18th and early 19th centuries. There's also a simple but beautiful granite font that dates all the way back to the 14th century!
