St Matthew's Church is a beautiful Anglican church found in Widcombe, a part of Bath, Somerset, England. It sits on Cambridge Place, near the Widcombe Locks of the Kennet and Avon Canal. This church was built between 1846 and 1847.

The main architect for St Matthew's was George Phillips Manners. He was the city architect for Bath. The church is one of two churches in the Widcombe area. The other is the much older St Thomas à Becket.

Building St Matthew's Church

Construction of St Matthew's Church started in 1846. It was finished just one year later, in 1847. The church was designed in the Victorian style. It uses Bath Stone for its walls.

The church has a tall spire. This spire holds six bells. These bells were moved from the older St Thomas à Becket church in 1847.

What Happens at the Church Today?

In the 1970s, St Matthew's Church was updated. These changes made it useful for many community events. It now has meeting rooms and spaces for different church activities.

Since 2014, regular Sunday evening services have started again. A new priest leads these weekly worship times. The church is an active part of the wider Bath area.
