St Mungo's Church is a Roman Catholic church located in the Townhead area of Glasgow, Scotland. It is a special kind of church called a Parish church, which means it serves a local community. The church was first built in 1841, and more work was done on it in 1877. It was designed by an architect named George Goldie.

You can find St Mungo's Church at the corner of Parson Street and Glebe Street. It's east of St Mungo's Catholic Primary School. The church was started by a group of priests called the Passionists. It is built in a style called Gothic Revival, which looks like old medieval churches. The building is also listed as a Category B building, meaning it's important for its history or architecture. St Mungo's Church is one of only two churches in Townhead that survived when many old buildings were removed in the 1950s and 1960s.

History of St Mungo's Church

The church building was first put up in 1841. George Goldie was the architect who designed it. He built the church in a style known as Italian Gothic. About nine years later, the church became the main church for a local area, known as a parish.

Who are the Passionists?

In 1865, a group of priests called the Passionists came to Scotland from Ireland. They started to help and lead the people in the St Mungo's parish. From St Mungo's Church, the Passionists also went to help Catholics in other parts of Scotland. For example, they helped at St Joseph's Church in Helensburgh in 1867. In 1877, the church was changed and updated again, also designed by George Goldie.

In 1899, another church, St Stephen's Church in Sighthill, joined with St Mungo's. The Passionists then helped both churches.

What Happens at the Parish?

Right next to the church, on the east side, is a place called St Mungo's Retreat. This is a quiet place for people to visit. Also, to the north of the church, there is a parish hall. This hall works as a day centre, offering activities and support for the community.

Mass Times at St Mungo's

St Mungo's Church holds several Masses each week. On Saturdays, there is a Mass at 6:00 PM. On Sundays, there are three Masses: at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM (noon), and 7:00 PM. During the week, there are also Masses every day at 10:00 AM and 12:15 PM.
