What Does the Prize Include?
The winner of the St Mungo Prize receives a shiny gold medal. They also get £1,000. This money comes from a special fund. The fund was set up in 1936 with £13,500.
Who Started the Prize Fund?
For many years, the person who started the fund was a secret. Later, it was found out to be Alexander Patterson Somerville. He was a shoe maker and artist from Glasgow. He wanted to help his city. He was revealed as the donor after he passed away in 1949.
