History of St Paul's Church
The idea for St Paul's Church started with a man named Albert Kingwell. He was an agent for Charles Jack. Albert Kingwell helped get the land for the church from the Duchy of Lancaster. This is a large estate owned by the King or Queen.
Building the Church
Albert Kingwell was also the architect who designed the church. He even gave a beautiful stained glass window to the church. There was one important rule for the land: a church had to be built within three years.
The building first opened in 1911. It was known as the Church Room back then. It became officially known as St Paul's Church in 1936. At first, it was connected to another church called Christ Church, Cockfosters. But in the year 2000, St Paul's Church became independent. This means it could make its own decisions.
St Paul's Church Today
Today, St Paul's Church holds church services every Sunday. It is a busy place where people gather to worship.
Church Beliefs
St Paul's Church follows a set of beliefs within the Church of England called the Conservative Evangelical tradition. This means they focus on the Bible and its teachings.
The church has specific views on leadership roles within the church. They believe that certain leadership positions are meant for men. Because of this, they have decided not to allow women to be ordained as priests.
Church Leadership
St Paul's Church receives special guidance from a bishop called the Bishop of Maidstone. This is known as alternative episcopal oversight. The current Bishop of Maidstone is Rod Thomas.
