Stanhopea pseudoradiosa is a special type of orchid flower. It grows only in southwestern Mexico, which means it's endemic to that area. You can find it in places like Oaxaca, Colima, and Guerrero. These orchids live on the western slopes of mountains, in forests with oak trees, pine trees, or other trees that lose some of their leaves. They grow at heights between 750 and 1300 meters (about 2,460 to 4,265 feet) above sea level.

What Does Stanhopea pseudoradiosa Look Like?

This orchid is an epiphyte, which means it grows on other plants, like trees, but it doesn't harm them. It gets its water and nutrients from the air and rain. These orchids like cool to warm weather.

Pseudobulbs and Leaves

Stanhopea pseudoradiosa has oval-shaped pseudobulbs. These are like small, ribbed pods found under the orchid's leaves. Pseudobulbs are very important because they store water and food. This helps the orchid survive when there isn't much rain.

The orchid's leaves are single and feel a bit like leather. They are shaped like narrow ovals, getting thinner at the end with a small, sharp point. Each leaf has a stem called a petiole. The leaves also look plicate, which means they are folded like a fan.

Flowers and Fragrance

In the summer, this orchid blooms with 2 to 5 flowers that hang down. These flowers have a lovely smell! Each flower is surrounded by large, triangular leaves called floral bracts. These bracts are found just below the flower. The flowers themselves are about 2 to 2.2 inches (5 to 5.5 cm) across.
