Stanley Point is a small neighbourhood on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand. It used to be called Stanley Bay. This area is mostly homes where people live. The Devonport Naval Base, a navy base, is located to the east. It has a tunnel that connects to storage areas in Ngataringa Bay.
Why is it Called Stanley Point?
Stanley Point was known as Stanley Bay until December 2007. That's when the New Zealand Geographic Board officially changed its name to Stanley Point.
The area is named after Owen Stanley. He was the captain of a ship called HMS Britomart. In 1841, he explored and mapped the Waitematā Harbour. In the 1880s, when the Calliope Dock was being built, a Māori village was located in Stanley Bay. This village was home to the workers who helped build the dock.

Education in Stanley Point
Stanley Bay School is a primary school in the area. It teaches students from Year 1 to Year 6. As of 2023, about 200 students attend the school. The school's motto is "Those Who Do Their Best Do Well." Stanley Bay School was first opened in 1909.
