The Story of Stanleyville

How Stanleyville Got Its Name

Stanleyville began a long time ago, around the year 1811. A pioneer named Thomas Stanley was the first person to build a mill there. A mill is a building where grain is ground into flour, or where other materials are processed. Because Thomas Stanley was so important to the start of the community, the people who lived there decided to name the place after him.

Stanleyville's Post Office

For many years, Stanleyville had its own post office. It opened in 1878, which made it easier for people in the community to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the area for a long time, but it eventually closed its doors in 1933.
