About Star Wars Comic Magazine
Star Wars Comic brought many adventures from a galaxy far, far away to young readers in the UK. It was a monthly magazine that let fans dive deeper into the stories and characters they loved.
What Kinds of Stories Were Inside?
The magazine offered two main types of comic stories. Some were reprints of comics already published in the US. Others were completely new stories created just for this magazine.
Classic Adventures: Reprinted Comics
The first five volumes of Star Wars Comic featured stories that were "reprinted." This means they were first published by Dark Horse Comics in the United States. These comics covered many different parts of the Star Wars saga.
Here are some of the comic series that were reprinted:
- Boba Fett: Overkill
- Dark Times
- Star Wars: The Clone Wars
- Episode I - The Phantom Menace, #1–4
- The Force Unleashed
- General Grievous
- Knights of the Old Republic
- Star Wars Rebellion: My Brother, My Enemy
- Star Wars: Republic
- Star Wars Tales
- X-wing Rogue Squadron
New Tales: Original Comics
From volume six onwards, each issue of Star Wars Comic featured brand-new, "original" comic strips. These stories were specially made for the magazine. They were often based on the animated TV series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
These new stories were written by Tom DeFalco and Rik Hoskin. The art was created by Andrés Ponce and Tanya Roberts. Each comic strip was a complete story on its own. They were not part of a longer series like some of the Dark Horse comics.
Here are some of the original stories from volumes five and six:
- Issue 5.13: Orbital Onslaught
- Issue 6.1: Inside Job
- Issue 6.2: Keep The Faith
- Issue 6.3: In Triplicate
- Issue 6.4: The Droid Deception
- Issue 6.5: Terror on the Twilight
- Issue 6.22: Leisure
- 'A Trooper's Tale'
- 'Milk Run to Maarka'
Other Cool Star Wars Magazines
Titan Magazines also published other exciting Star Wars titles besides Star Wars Comic.
Star Wars Galaxy Magazine
On October 28, 2010, Titan Comics launched another monthly Star Wars magazine called Star Wars Galaxy. This magazine was similar to the main Star Wars Comic. It usually had three comic strips in each issue. These were also reprints from US Dark Horse comics.
Sometimes, Star Wars Galaxy even reprinted stories that had already appeared in Titan's original Star Wars Comic. An example is the Star Wars Tales story "Resurrection." Star Wars Galaxy was printed as a regular-sized comic book. It stopped being published in September 2012 after 24 issues.
Totally...Star Wars: Episode I Special
Issue 15 of Titan's Totally... magazine was a special one-time edition. It came out in February 2012. This was to celebrate the 3D re-release of the movie Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.
This special issue included a brand-new comic strip called 'Duel of the Fates'. It was written by Steve White and drawn by Will Sliney. Some panels in the comic could be seen in stereoscopic 3D. You could view them using special 3D glasses that came free with the magazine!
Star Wars Insider Magazine
Star Wars Insider is the official magazine for the entire Star Wars franchise. Titan Magazines has been publishing this magazine in the UK since 2007. They continue to publish it even today.
Free Comic Samples
Short samples of Star Wars Comic were sometimes given away. You could find them inside Region 2 DVDs of Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 2. These samples included a short comic strip from volume six. They also had extra content like episode guides and fun puzzles. Titan also released digital samples for fans in the US.
