It was built in 1911 and served many different purposes over the years.

Statesboro's Historic City Building
This building, known as the Statesboro City Hall and Fire Station, played a big role in the city's history. It was where local government decisions were made. It also housed the brave firefighters who protected the community.
What is a City Hall?
A City Hall is the main building for a city's government. It's where the mayor and city council members often work. They make rules and decisions that help the city run smoothly. Think of it as the city's headquarters!
The Fire Station's Role
A fire station is where firefighters live and work. They keep their fire trucks and equipment ready there. From this station, they would quickly respond to emergencies like fires. Their job is to keep people and property safe.
A Look at the Building's Past
The building started its life in 1911. It wasn't always a city hall or fire station. It began as city stables, a place for horses. Over the years, it changed a lot to fit new needs.
From Stables to City Services
In 1933, the building had a big addition. It might have even been completely rebuilt around that time. After these changes, it became the home for Statesboro's city government and fire department. This made it a central spot for important city services.
Changes Over Time
The building continued to change as the city grew. Before 1966, an awning was added to the outside. This might have provided shade or protection from rain. In 1970, a vehicle bay was added. This was likely a garage space for fire trucks or other city vehicles.
A Place in History
The Statesboro City Hall and Fire Station was recognized for its historical importance. On September 6, 1989, it was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes buildings, sites, and objects that are important in American history. Even though the building is no longer standing, its history is remembered.
