The Abraham Lincoln Statue in Cincinnati

This large statue of Abraham Lincoln is made of bronze. It is located in Lytle Park, which is in downtown Cincinnati. The statue is a well-known landmark in the city.

Creating the Statue

The idea for the statue came from the Charles P. Taft family. They asked a famous artist named George Grey Barnard to create it. The statue was meant to celebrate 100 years since Lincoln's birth.

Barnard worked hard to create the statue. It was finally finished and shown to the public on March 31, 1917. A special event was held at Lytle Park for the unveiling.

The Dedication Ceremony

At the unveiling event, a very important person gave a speech. This was William Howard Taft, who used to be the President of the United States. He was also Charles P. Taft's younger brother. His speech helped dedicate the new statue to Abraham Lincoln.

Other Lincoln Statues

The statue in Cincinnati is not the only one like it. George Grey Barnard made two more copies of his Lincoln statue. One of these copies is in Louisville, Kentucky. The other copy is located far away in Manchester, England. This shows how important Abraham Lincoln is around the world.
