How to Play
The game usually has two teams. Each player gets a special number or name. Another player on the other team will have the same number or name.
The teams stand on opposite sides of a playing area. The "bacon" is a small object. It is placed in the middle of the playing area.
Game Steps
- A referee (an adult or leader) calls out a number or name.
- The players with that number from each team run to the middle.
- They try to grab the "bacon."
- Once a player touches the "bacon," the other player can try to tag them.
- The player with the "bacon" tries to run back to their team's side. They must do this without being tagged.
Scoring Points
- If a player grabs the "bacon" and gets back to their team without being tagged, their team gets a point.
- If the player with the "bacon" gets tagged by the other player, the other team gets the point.
Referee's Role
The referee can call out more than one number at a time. This means several players might run for the "bacon" at once. The referee can also shout "steal the bacon!" When this happens, all players from both teams can run to grab the item.
Game Variations
There are different ways to play "Steal the bacon."
Learning Version
Sometimes, the referee does not call out a number directly. Instead, they ask a question. The answer to the question is a player's number or name. For example, the referee might ask a math question. The player whose number is the answer then runs. This version helps players learn while having fun.
Other Versions
Some versions of the game are played at summer camps. In these games, the "bacon" might be a different object. Players might also try to stop the other team more directly.
