Stefanie was born in Kaiserslautern, a city in Germany. Her parents are of German background. They moved from Siberia to Germany in 1995, one year before Stefanie was born. When she was 13, Stefanie had a health condition called primary ciliary dyskinesia. This condition affects tiny hair-like structures in the body. She needed an emergency operation to help her.

After winning Germany's Next Topmodel in 2014, Stefanie signed with a modeling agency. This agency was called ONEeins and was owned by Günther Klum. She worked with them for two years. After her contract ended, she chose not to sign with them again.
