Steinmetz, Missouri facts for kids
Steinmetz is a small place in Howard County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county, and the county government handles services for the area.
History of Steinmetz
The area where Steinmetz is located was officially planned out and marked on a map in 1882. This process is called platting, and it helps organize how land is divided and used. The community was named after W. P. Steinmetz, who was the original owner of the land where the community was being developed.
Even before it was officially planned, a post office opened in Steinmetz in 1879. This post office served the community for many years, helping people send and receive mail, until it closed in 1933.
