Stephen E. Murphy, born in 1957, is an American who used to work as a special agent for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). He is well-known for his important role in finding and stopping a very powerful criminal named Pablo Escobar. Stephen Murphy worked on this big case with another agent, Javier Peña.
Their exciting story was even made into a TV show called Narcos on Netflix. In the show, actor Boyd Holbrook played Stephen Murphy. Both Murphy and Peña helped the show's creators make sure the story was told correctly.

Stephen Murphy's Career in Law Enforcement
Stephen Murphy started his career in law enforcement when he was 19 years old. He began as an intern with the police department in Bluefield, West Virginia. This was his first step into helping keep communities safe.
Early Police Work
After his internship, Stephen Murphy became a police officer in Bluefield. He worked there for six years, helping people and making sure rules were followed. Later, he also worked as a police officer for a railroad company called Norfolk Southern. He did this for about six years too.
Joining the DEA
In 1987, Stephen Murphy joined the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The DEA is a special government agency in the United States. Its main job is to stop people from illegally selling and distributing harmful substances. Murphy worked for the DEA until 2008. During his time there, he took on many important cases.
