Stephen Terry is a well-known chef from Wales. He is famous for his delicious cooking and for owning a restaurant called The Hardwick, located in Abergavenny, Wales.

A Chef's Journey

Stephen Terry learned how to cook from some of the best chefs. He trained with a very famous chef named Marco Pierre White at his restaurant, Harveys. This was an important step in his career.

Earning a Michelin Star

After his training, Stephen Terry went into business with Francesco Mattioli. They bought a restaurant in Abergavenny called The Walnut Tree. This restaurant was already well-known because it used to be run by an Italian chef named Franco Taruschio. Stephen Terry worked hard at The Walnut Tree, and his cooking was so good that the restaurant earned a Michelin star. A Michelin star is a special award that shows a restaurant has excellent food. Later, Stephen Terry and Francesco Mattioli decided to go their separate ways, and Francesco Mattioli continued to run The Walnut Tree.

Cooking on TV: Great British Menu

Stephen Terry has also appeared on television. He represented Wales on the BBC cooking show Great British Menu. In 2008, he competed and won his first round against another chef, Angela Hartnett. He even got to cook the fish dish at the show's final big dinner! He returned to the show in 2009, but was beaten in the first round by chef James Sommerin.

The Hardwick Restaurant

Stephen Terry later bought his own restaurant, The Hardwick. His wife, Joanne, helped manage the restaurant. The Hardwick became a very popular place for people to enjoy great food. In October 2023, Stephen and Joanne announced that The Hardwick restaurant had closed.
