Stephenson Island, also known as Mahinepua Island, is a small island located off the northern coast of New Zealand. It is the larger of two islands found in Whangaroa Bay. This island is about 3,275 meters (around 2 miles) away from the mainland.

Stephenson Island stretches for about 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles) in length and 0.8 kilometers (0.5 miles) in width. Its total area is about 112 hectares (which is roughly 0.43 square miles). Just to its northwest, you'll find a smaller island called Cone Island. From space, pictures show that Stephenson Island has many trees. There are only two spots on the island where buildings can be seen.

Stephenson Island is nestled in the beautiful Whangaroa Bay. This bay is located on the northern tip of New Zealand. The island's longest side runs from the northwest to the southeast.

The highest point on Stephenson Island is a spot called Ririwha. This peak reaches an elevation of 132 meters (about 433 feet) above sea level.

Records from Land Information New Zealand show that Stephenson Island is special. It is owned by eleven different families together. The island is officially classified as Maori Land. This means it belongs to the Māori people, who are the native people of New Zealand.
