Museum History: How It Started
The Stepping Stones Museum for Children opened its doors in the year 2000. Gigi Priebe helped start the museum. In its first ten years, over two million people visited!
Big Changes and New Features
In 2010, the museum got a huge makeover. This project cost $17 million. The museum closed for about three months for the work. It had a "grand reopening" on November 20, 2010.
This big change made the museum much larger. It added about 22,000 square feet (2,000 square meters) of indoor space. This meant the museum doubled in size! The new design also helped the museum use energy wisely. It was built using recycled materials from nearby places.
Part of the expansion included a new theater. This theater has a huge forty-foot screen. It's great for watching movies and presentations. The museum also added an indoor telescope. This telescope lets visitors look at plants and animals living on the museum's roof!
