Steve Berry was born on September 2, 1955. He is a well-known American author. Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked as a lawyer. Today, he lives in St. Augustine, Florida.

Steve Berry studied law at Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law. He worked as a trial lawyer for 30 years. For 14 of those years, he also held elected public office. He helped start a group called International Thriller Writers. This group has over 4,200 thriller writers from all over the world. Steve Berry was also a co-president of this group for three years.

Becoming an Author

Steve Berry's first books were The Amber Room and The Romanov Prophecy. These historical thrillers came out in 2003 and 2004. He had been writing stories since 1990. It took him 12 years to get a book published. He received 85 rejections before Ballantine Books finally bought one of his stories.

Steve Berry says that the nuns who taught him in Catholic school helped him a lot. They taught him the discipline he needed. This discipline helped him write novels and keep trying to find a publisher.
