Steve DiSalvo's Wrestling Journey
Starting His Wrestling Path
Stephen DiSalvo started wrestling in the mid-1980s. Before that, he was a powerlifter. He learned how to wrestle from trainers like Billy Anderson and Red Bastien.
Wrestling in Canada (1986–1989)
When he wrestled in Canada, Stephen DiSalvo was known as Steve Strong. He was a popular wrestler in International Wrestling, a company based in Montreal. His manager during this time was Eddy Creatchman.
In 1987, DiSalvo also made a brief appearance for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). He wrestled two matches in Quebec.
Later, he moved to Stampede Wrestling and was called "Strangler" Steve DiSalvo. Here, he had a big rivalry with Phil LaFleur. They argued about who had a better physique. DiSalvo even broke a trophy over LaFleur's head on TV! This led to many exciting matches between them. DiSalvo also helped Don Muraco win the Stampede North American Title from Mahkan Singh.
Adventures in Puerto Rico (1989)
In 1989, DiSalvo went to wrestle for the World Wrestling Council (WWC) in Puerto Rico. He had tough fights with wrestlers like Abdullah the Butcher, TNT, and Invader #1.
He also won the WWC World Tag Team Championship with his tag team partner, Jason the Terrible. DiSalvo had a big feud with "El Acrobata de Puerto Rico" Carlos Colon. He won the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship from Colon in a special "Texas Death match" on May 27, 1989.
DiSalvo held the championship for 133 days. Colon won it back from him in a "Barbed Wire match" on October 7, 1989. Their rivalry ended when DiSalvo lost to Colon in a "Retirement match" for the championship on November 23, 1989.
Different Promotions (1989–1990)
DiSalvo continued to wrestle for various companies. On February 13, 1990, he had a tryout match with the WWF. He also appeared in other shows, sometimes teaming up with Mano Yanez.
World Championship Wrestling (1990–1991)
In 1990, Stephen DiSalvo joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW). He was given a new wrestling character called "The Minotaur." His first TV appearance was on January 5, 1991, where he won his match. He then had a series of undefeated matches against The Juicer and later faced The Junkyard Dog.
Later Career (1991–2001)
