Stephen Phelipe "Stevie" Forbes (born February 26, 1977) is an American professional boxer. He used to be the IBF super featherweight champion. Forbes' nickname is "2Pound". He got this name because he was born weighing only 2 pounds.

Amateur Career

Steve Forbes started boxing when he was 10 years old. He trained at the Matt Dishman Community Center. He was part of the Knott ST Boxing Team.

Professional Career

Forbes became a professional boxer in 1996. He was nineteen years old at the time. He won his first fourteen fights in a row. His first loss was on March 11, 2000. He fought against Alejandro González. González was a former WBC Featherweight champion.

After a few more fights, Forbes got a chance to win a title. On September 17, 2000, he fought David Santos. This was for the United States Boxing Association Super featherweight title. Forbes won the title after twelve rounds. The judges' scores showed he won clearly.

Winning a World Title

In 2000, Forbes had already fought seven times. He was ranked number two in his weight class. He got a chance to fight for the IBF super featherweight title. The previous champion, Diego Corrales, had given up the title. This allowed Forbes to fight John Brown for the empty title. Brown was ranked number one.

Forbes won the IBF title on December 3, 2000. He won by a TKO in the 8th round against Brown. Forbes also beat Brown again on September 29, 2001. This was his first time defending his new title.

On August 18, 2002, he lost his title. He could not make the correct weight for a fight against David Santos. Forbes had beaten Santos before for another title. The IBF title was then empty for a while. Forbes fought for it again on October 14, 2003. He faced Carlos Hernández. Forbes lost this fight by a unanimous decision. The fight stopped in the 10th round because of an accidental headbutt. Hernández then won the title.

On The Contender TV Show

Steve Forbes was on the ESPN reality show called "Contender Season 2". He was chosen to be on the Gold Team. Many people thought he would win the show. This was because of his past success as a champion. He was the last fighter picked for the show.

Forbes won his first three fights on the show. He beat Freddy Curiel, Nick Acevedo, and Cornelius Bundrage. But he lost to Grady Brewer in the final match.

After The Contender

On March 17, 2007, Forbes lost a close fight to Demetrius Hopkins. Hopkins is the nephew of famous boxer Bernard Hopkins. Many people thought the decision was unfair.

On October 6, 2007, Forbes won a surprising victory. He beat Francisco Bojado in a junior welterweight fight. The judges' decision was split, meaning it was very close.

Forbes later fought against the famous boxer Oscar De La Hoya. This fight happened on May 3 in Carson, California. Forbes lost to De La Hoya by a unanimous decision.
