Grady Brewer's Boxing Journey
Early Life and Amateur Fights
Grady grew up in a family of boxers, so it was natural for him to start boxing too. He began his amateur career at just 11 years old. He was very successful, winning 40 out of his 45 fights. Grady also won the Oklahoma Golden Gloves tournament in his weight class. Later, he won a "toughman" tournament in his hometown of Lawton, Oklahoma.
Becoming a Professional Boxer
When Grady turned professional, he often took fights on short notice. This meant he was known as a "professional opponent." He would step in to fight, even if he didn't have much time to prepare. This showed how tough and ready he always was.
Winning The Contender
One of Grady's biggest achievements was winning the ESPN reality show, The Contender. On the first episode, he was chosen for the Blue Team. He won his first fight on the show against Vinroy Barrett. Then, he won his second fight against Michael Stewart by a unanimous decision. This means all the judges agreed he won.
His third fight was very challenging. Grady was knocked down in the first round by Norberto Bravo. But he got back up and fought hard to win the match! On September 26, 2006, Grady faced Steve Forbes in the final. This big fight took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Grady won the Contender title and championship by a split decision. This means the judges were split, but most of them thought Grady won.
After The Contender
After winning The Contender, Grady continued his boxing career. In 2008, he fought another contestant from the show, Cornelius Bundrage. Grady won that fight by a split decision too. This win was important because it was an eliminator for an IBO title.
On August 22, 2009, Grady won the IBC Light Middleweight Title. He defeated Albert Onolunose by knockout in the second round. A knockout happens when a boxer is hit so hard they cannot continue the fight. Later, on June 17, 2011, he had another knockout victory. This time, he beat Fernando Guerrero, who had never lost a fight before.
Besides boxing, Grady Brewer also owns his own gym. It's called "Bad Boy's Boxing and Fitness Gym" and is located in Lawton, Oklahoma.
