Steve Soto's Music Journey
Steve Soto had a long and active career in music. He was known for his bass playing and for helping to create the sound of California punk rock.
Agent Orange (1979)
Steve Soto was one of the first members of the punk band Agent Orange in 1979. This band was from Placentia, California. They were special because they mixed punk rock music with surf music.
In 1979, Agent Orange recorded three songs with Steve Soto on bass. These songs were "Bored of You," "America," and "El Dorado." Steve Soto left the band in 1980 to start a new group called The Adolescents.
Adolescents (1980–2018)
The Adolescents formed in Fullerton, California, in 1980. They became one of the most important punk bands from Orange County. Their first album, Adolescents (also called the blue album), came out in 1981. It was one of the first hardcore punk albums to be sold widely across the United States.
The album sold over 10,000 copies, making it one of the best-selling California hardcore albums. The band broke up after releasing an EP called Welcome to Reality in 1981.
In 1986, the original Adolescents band members got back together for a concert. It was a big hit, which led to the band reforming. Over the years, members changed. Steve Soto even became the main singer for a time in 1988. The band broke up again in 1989.
The Adolescents reformed again in 2001. They started playing shows and writing new music. They released an EP called Unwrap and Blow Me! in 2003. They also released a live album and DVD in 2004 called Live at the House of Blues.
In 2005, they released OC Confidential, a comeback album that took over two years to finish. Steve Soto and Tony Reflex became the main songwriters for the band. Steve Soto released four more albums with The Adolescents before he passed away. Their ninth album, Cropduster, came out in 2018, just a month after his death.
Legal Weapon (1981–1982)
After The Adolescents first broke up in 1981, Steve Soto joined a Los Angeles band called Legal Weapon. He played bass guitar for them from 1981 to 1982. Steve Soto played on one album with Legal Weapon, called Death of Innocence, which was released in 1982.
Joyride (1989–1994)
