Discovering Acting: Steve Toussaint's Early Life
Steve Toussaint was born in Birmingham, England. His parents were from Barbados. He grew up in New Cross, a part of South London. His dad worked for the London Underground, and his mom was a nurse.
His first experience with acting was in a school play. He played a Roman soldier wearing armor made from cardboard! Later, he studied Politics at the University of Sussex. While there, he was asked to be in a play and joined the drama club.
After college, he worked briefly in banking and hospital jobs. But he soon decided to try acting again. He started taking evening drama classes to learn more.
Toussaint changed his last name to Toussaint because another actor already had his birth name. He chose the name from Toussaint Louverture, a famous leader from Haiti. Steve had been reading about him at the time.
