Stephen Toussaint (born on March 22, 1965) is a British actor and writer. He became well-known for his role in the TV crime show The Knock, which aired from 1994 to 2000. Today, he is famous for playing Lord Corlys Velaryon in the fantasy series House of the Dragon on HBO.
He has also appeared in movies like Shooting Dogs (2005) and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010). On television, you might have seen him in Line of Duty (2014), Lewis (2015), Pine Gap (2018), and Small Axe: Red, White and Blue (2020).

His Early Life and Education
Stephen Toussaint was born in Birmingham, England. His parents were from Barbados. He grew up in New Cross, a part of South London. His dad worked for the London Underground, and his mom was a nurse.
Stephen first tried acting in a school play. He played a Roman soldier wearing armor made from cardboard! Later, he studied politics at the University of Sussex. While there, he joined the drama club and started acting more.
After college, he worked in banking and hospitals for a short time. But he decided he really wanted to act. So, he took evening acting classes to follow his dream.
Why He Changed His Name
Stephen's original birth name was the same as another actor in his union. To avoid confusion, he changed his last name to Toussaint. He chose this name because he was reading about Toussaint Louverture. He was a famous leader from Haiti who fought for freedom.

Starting Out in Theatre
Stephen's first professional acting job was in a play called Aladdin in 1990. He played the Genie in the Lamp! He has performed in many other plays too. These include A Doll's House, Macbeth, and The Merchant of Venice. He has worked with famous groups like the Royal Shakespeare Company.
His Big Break on Television
Stephen got his first big TV role as Barrie Christie. This was in the crime drama The Knock. He was in 37 episodes of the show from 1994 to 2000. He also appeared in other shows like Waking the Dead and My Dad's the Prime Minister.

In 2010, Stephen starred in the movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. He acted alongside stars like Jake Gyllenhaal and Ben Kingsley.
