Sticks'n'Sushi is a popular restaurant group. It started in Copenhagen, Denmark. This company specializes in delicious sushi and yakitori. Yakitori are tasty grilled skewers, often with chicken.
Today, Sticks'n'Sushi has many restaurants. You can find them in the Copenhagen area. They also have locations in the United Kingdom and Berlin, Germany.
How Sticks'n'Sushi Started
The first Sticks'n'Sushi restaurant opened on March 22, 1994. It was located on Nansensgade in Copenhagen. It was started by two Danish-Japanese brothers, Jens and Kim Rahbek Hansen.
Their mother, Keiko, and their brother-in-law, Thor Andersen, also helped. They wanted to share their love for Japanese food. More restaurants soon opened around Copenhagen.
Sticks'n'Sushi in the UK
Sticks'n'Sushi opened its first restaurant in London in March 2012. This was in Wimbledon Hill Road. The company wanted to grow even more.
In May 2013, they sold a part of their company. This helped them get money to open more restaurants abroad. The second London restaurant opened in October 2013. It was in Henrietta Street, Covent Garden.
In 2015, a new restaurant opened in Greenwich. It was in a historic building. This location was near famous places like the Maritime Museum and Cutty Sark. Another restaurant opened at the Crossrail station in Canary Wharf. This was the first time they served a Japanese-Danish breakfast.
Sticks'n'Sushi Cambridge opened its doors on May 7, 2016. On November 24, 2017, a restaurant opened in Westgate Oxford. The seventh UK restaurant opened in Victoria on December 8, 2017.
In October 2018, they opened their biggest UK restaurant in Chelsea. This was on the Kings Road. It was also the first UK restaurant with a private dining room. In autumn 2020, the group expanded to Soho. This restaurant was in a building that used to be a police station.
Since then, more restaurants have opened. These include locations in White City, Shoreditch, Kingston, Richmond, and Islington.
Sticks'n'Sushi in Germany
The company became even more international in 2017. They opened their first restaurant in Germany. This was in Berlin on Potsdamer Straße.
As of October 2023, there are three Sticks'n'Sushi restaurants in Berlin.
