Stitch's Supersonic Celebration was a fun live show at Walt Disney World Resort. It featured the popular character Stitch from the Lilo & Stitch movies. The show took place in the Tomorrowland area of the Magic Kingdom park. It opened in May 2009 but only ran for a short time.
What Was Stitch's Supersonic Celebration?
This show was a lively stage performance. It brought the mischievous alien Stitch to life for guests. The show was built in the eastern part of Tomorrowland. Construction started in late 2008 and finished in April 2009.
Characters and Story
The show had a host named Tip Trendo. He acted like a reporter for the Tomorrowland News Network. There were also four dancers and two robots on stage. The biggest star was Stitch himself!
At first, Stitch appeared on a big video screen. He could talk and joke with the audience. This was possible thanks to special technology. It was similar to the technology used in the Turtle Talk with Crush show. That show is found at Epcot's The Seas with Nemo and Friends.
During the show, guests celebrated "Galaxy Day." Everyone was invited to sing and dance along. The music was a mix of popular songs. These included tunes by Elvis Presley and "The Future Has Arrived" from Meet the Robinsons.
Why Did the Show Close So Soon?
Stitch's Supersonic Celebration only ran for about six weeks. It opened on May 6, 2009, and closed on June 27, 2009. Many people believe it closed early for a few reasons.
One big reason was the lack of shade. The Florida sun can be very hot and bright. There were only a few small awnings for guests to stand under. Also, the video screen where Stitch appeared was hard to see in direct sunlight.
The stage built for Stitch's Supersonic Celebration is still used today. It now hosts other shows during different seasons. For example, "A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas Show" is performed there. This show is part of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.
