Stonebridge Ranch, Texas facts for kids
Stonebridge Ranch is a special kind of neighborhood called a planned community located in McKinney, a city in Collin County, Texas, United States. It's a large area designed from the start to have homes, schools, and fun places all together.
How Stonebridge Ranch Started
Building Stonebridge Ranch began in the mid-1980s. The idea was to create a big community with many homes and facilities across a huge area of about 6,000 acres. That's like having over 4,500 football fields!
However, there were some big challenges early on. In 1988, the company that was helping to pay for the project ran into financial trouble. The government had to step in and take over the property. Later, in 1990, the land was sold again for much less money than it was first valued at.
After this, a new owner named Yukio Kitano bought the property. This was a very important moment because it was the biggest investment from Japan in Texas real estate at that time. Since then, building and developing Stonebridge Ranch has continued for many years.
