Discovering Stonelick Park's Past
How Stonelick Lake Was Made
Stonelick State Park started in 1948 when the land was bought for public use. A few years later, in 1950, a big dam was built on the west side of the park. This dam helped create the beautiful Stonelick Lake that we see today.
Making the Lake Healthy Again
For a while, the lake had some pollution issues that affected its natural environment. To fix this, in the 1990s, the lake bottom was cleaned out. This process, called "dredging," helped make the water safe and healthy again for both wildlife and people who wanted to swim.
