The Strasskirchen Solar Park is a large photovoltaic power station in Bavaria. Its installed capacity is 60 MW. The project provides enough clean energy to power 17,000 households.

The solar park was developed by a joint venture of MEMC and Q-Cells in 2009. At this time it was the second largest PV Power Plant in the world. The project cost $197.04m.

The power plant, which covers an area of 135 hectares, was built on the site of the former Gänsdorf estate. The initiator of the project was Klaus Krinner, the landowner who had bought most of the project area from Gloria von Thurn und Taxis.

For the project, a total of 243,936 modules made of multicrystalline silicon from Q-Cells were installed and secured with 53,000 screw foundations.

Awards

In 2013, Strasskirchen Solar Park was awarded the German Landscape Architecture Prize.
