History of the Station Site

The spot where Stratford High Street station now stands has a long history with trains. Before the current DLR station, there was an older railway station here for over a hundred years!

From Stratford Bridge to Stratford Market

The first station on this site opened way back in 1847. It was originally known as Stratford Bridge. Later, its name changed to Stratford Market. This station was an important part of the local railway network for many decades. It served the community until it closed in 1957. After it closed, the area remained without a train station for many years until the DLR arrived.
