Leigh shares his thoughts about his parents' divorce. He also writes about starting high school. This is a big step for him. He talks about his friend Barry and a red-haired girl named Geneva.
Finding a Furry Friend
One day, Leigh and Barry find an abandoned dog on a beach. They decide to name him Strider. Strider is a dog who loves to run! Leigh and Barry agree to share Strider. They want to share him like divorced parents share their children.
Strider's New Home
As time goes on, Barry doesn't take good care of Strider. This causes some problems for Leigh. Leigh feels sad and worried about Strider. Finally, Leigh decides to take full care of Strider. He becomes Strider's main owner.
