Stéphane Caillat (born in 1928, died September 11, 2020) was a talented French musician. He was known for composing music and leading both orchestras and choirs.

Stéphane Caillat's Life

Stéphane Caillat learned music in two big French cities: Lyon and Paris. He studied many things, like how different musical notes fit together (harmonics and counterpoints). He also learned to play the organ and to lead music groups.

In 1954, he started his own choir, which he named Stéphane Caillat. Later, in 1979, he created a special center in Paris called the Centre d'études polyphoniques et chorales de Paris Île-de-France. He led this center for ten years.

Caillat also directed another choir called Per cantar e sonar. He was in charge of the Festival d'art sacré de la Ville de Paris, which is a festival for sacred (religious) art. During the 1980s, he produced music shows for France Musique, a French radio station.

Stéphane Caillat helped people rediscover Baroque music. This is a style of music that was popular a long time ago, from about 1600 to 1750. For his work, he received the Grand prix du disque from the Académie Charles Cros. This is a special award for great music recordings.
