Subroto Bagchi (born May 31, 1959) is an Indian businessman. He is famous for helping to start Mindtree, a big technology company in India.
Early Life and School
Subroto Bagchi was born in Patnagarh, Odisha. His father worked for the government. Subroto went to Utkal University where he studied political science.
His Career Journey
Subroto Bagchi began his career in 1976. He worked as a clerk for the Government of Odisha. After a year, he joined DCM as a management trainee. He worked there for five years.
In 1981, he started working in the computer industry. He worked for many different computer companies. He handled sales, marketing, and operations. His longest time was at Wipro. There, he became the Chief Executive of Wipro's Global Research and Development. He also worked for the chairman, Azim Premji.
In 1999, Subroto Bagchi and nine other people started Mindtree. This company grew into a large IT services company. It now has over 20,000 employees. Mindtree is listed on the stock exchanges in India.
When Mindtree first started, Subroto Bagchi was the chief operating officer. This means he helped manage the company's daily work.
In 2010, he became the vice-chairman of the board. Then, in 2012, he became the chairman. He stepped down from this role in 2016.
Later, in 2016, the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, asked him to lead the Odisha Skill Development Authority. He took on this full-time role. He worked to help people in Odisha learn new skills.
