Where the Sucio River Flows
The Sucio River starts very high up. It begins about half a kilometer from the top of the Irazú Volcano. As it flows, the river travels through different parts of Costa Rica. It eventually joins with other rivers.
Journey to the Sea
The Sucio River is a tributary of the Río San Juan. This means it flows into the San Juan River. Near a town called Boca Rio Sucio, the Sucio River meets the Sarapiquí River. Both of these rivers then flow into the San Juan River. From there, the water continues its journey. Finally, it reaches the Caribbean Sea.

The Sucio River also has other connections. One of its smaller branches joins with the Patria River. Together, they form the Chirripo Norte River.
