Sue Singer is a British expert in teaching mathematics. She used to be the headmistress of Guildford High School, which is a school for girls in Surrey, England. She also led two important groups: the Girls' Schools Association and the Mathematical Association.

Her Journey in Education

Sue Singer started her university studies later in life, in 1971. She began by taking a mathematics course at the Open University, which was a new way to study at university back then. After finishing her degree, she earned a special teaching qualification called a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.

She then became a mathematics teacher at St Paul's Girls' School. She later became the head of the mathematics department there. After that, she became the headmistress of Guildford High School. She retired from Guildford in 2002. Later, she worked as a consultant, helping schools find new leaders.

Leading Educational Groups

As the president of the Girls' Schools Association, Sue Singer suggested that the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exams should be replaced. She thought that teachers' evaluations would be a better way to assess students.

She was also the president of the Mathematical Association from 2005 to 2006. Sue Singer loves to sail. In her speech to the Mathematical Association, she used examples of sailing problems to show how mathematics is used in everyday life. She believed it was very important to teach students how math connects to the real world.
