Discovering SugarHill Steward's Boxing Journey
Learning the Ropes at Kronk Gym
SugarHill Steward started his career at his uncle's famous Kronk Gym. This gym was a well-known place for training top boxers. It was here that SugarHill first met Tyson Fury in 2010.
After his uncle, Emanuel Steward, passed away in 2012, SugarHill continued his work. He trained some of his uncle's former fighters. These included boxers like Adonis Stevenson, Anthony Dirrell, and Charles Martin.
Training Champion Tyson Fury
In December 2019, Tyson Fury decided to change his boxing trainer. He chose SugarHill Steward to be his new head coach. This happened even though they had talked about SugarHill joining the team in a different role. At that time, SugarHill was mostly training less famous fighters.
After Fury's big win in a rematch against Deontay Wilder in February 2020, SugarHill spoke about his uncle. He said, "Emanuel Steward is smiling down from heaven. He knew Tyson Fury would become a champion way back then." This showed how much his uncle's legacy meant to him.
In September 2020, SugarHill traveled to the U.K. to help Fury get ready for another fight with Deontay Wilder. He had hinted he might stop training professionally after the second Wilder fight. However, he continued to work with Fury.
After Fury's knockout victory over Wilder in their second fight, Fury kept SugarHill as his main coach for their third match. This final fight ended with another knockout win for Tyson Fury. This victory marked the end of a three-year rivalry between the two boxers. It also gave SugarHill his first heavyweight title defense as a head coach.
