Sugluk was a rock band from northern Quebec, Canada. They were also known as Sugluc or the Sugluk Group. The band was led by singer George Kakayuk and guitarist Tayara Papigatuk.

Sugluk played many concerts in the 1970s and 1980s. They recorded two songs with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in 1975. The band wrote songs in both English and Inuktitut, which is the language of the Inuit people.

The band started in the early 1970s in a town called Salluit, Quebec. This town was once known as Sugluk. The band got back together in 2013. A pop singer named Elisapie Isaac also performed with the band when she was younger. She is George Kakayuk's niece.

Sugluk's Music Recordings

Sugluk only made a few recordings. These were two special records called 45 RPM singles. They were recorded by the CBC's Northern Service in 1975. A 45 RPM single is a small record that usually has one song on each side.

Here are the songs they recorded:

  • "Attama Onnikansigit" (which means "My Father's Story") and "Sunamiq Pigumavit" (which means "What Do You Want?") / "Ajuinarasuasuga" (which means "I Tried Hard"). This was released in 1975.
  • "Fall Away/ I Didn't Know" and "Ballad of the Running Girl/ Little Boy". This was also released in 1975.

Some of Sugluk's songs, like "Fall Away," "I Didn't Know," and "Ajuinarasuasuga," were later put on a special album. This album was called Native North America, Vol. 1 and came out in 2014. It featured music from many Indigenous artists in North America.
