Sula is a very well-known brand from Honduras. It is famous for its delicious fruit juices and special fruit drinks called nectars. Sula is one of the biggest brands in Honduras. It is also special because it sells its products in other countries, like the United States.
How Sula Started
Sula began in 1960 in a city called San Pedro Sula in Honduras. It started as a helpful project with UNICEF, a group that helps children around the world. The main idea was to build a factory to make milk products in northern Honduras.
Later, in 1992, a company called Lacthosa bought Sula. Lacthosa was started by a Honduran businessman named Schucry Kafie. After Lacthosa took over, they made Sula even better. They added many new products like orange juice, other fruit juices, cream, and special malt drinks. They also used new, modern machines to make everything.
What Products Does Sula Make?
Sula makes many kinds of tasty juices and nectars. You can find orange juice, apple juice, and pineapple juice. They also make drinks from fruits like guava, tamarind, peach, and pear. These are all sold under the Sula brand name.
Sula is a very important part of Lacthosa. It is the main brand that makes and sells fruit juices and nectars for the company. People often call Sula the "flagship brand" of Lacthosa because it's so well-known and important.
Where Can You Find Sula Products?
Sula products are sold in many places. Besides Honduras, they are exported to other countries in Central America and to the United States. In the mid-1990s, Sula started selling its drinks in Guatemala and El Salvador.
In 2001, Sula was able to sell its products in the U.S. market. This happened after they got a special permit from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA makes sure food and drinks are safe.
In 2015, Lacthosa invested a lot of money, about $15 million. This money helped them make even more juice. It also helped them send their products to more countries around the world.
Today, Sula products are exported to countries like El Salvador, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. In the United States, you can mostly find them in Florida and Texas. Sula is a big part of Honduras's exports. About 70% of all milk products and their related items exported from Honduras are from Lacthosa, mostly under the Sula brand. In the U.S., Sula Food & Beverage Corporation helps distribute these products.
In 2016, Sula joined a special group called Marca País Honduras. This means Sula can use the "Honduras Brand" stamp. It's part of a national effort to encourage business, exports, tourism, and national pride in Honduras.
