Summithill, Ohio facts for kids
Summithill is a small, unincorporated community located in Ross County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually part of a larger county.
History of Summithill
Summithill began to grow in the 1870s. This was an exciting time because the railroad was extended to reach this area. The community was given its name, "Summithill," because it was built on a high place, like the top of a hill. People sometimes called it "Summit" or "Summit Hill."
In 1878, a post office was opened in the community, which was a very important service back then for sending and receiving letters. It was first named "Summit Hill." Later, in 1895, the name was officially changed to "Summithill." The post office served the community for many years before it finally closed its doors in 1946.
