Sun Yafang (born in 1955) is a talented Chinese engineer and a leader in business. She was the Chairwoman of Huawei, a big technology company, for a long time. She held this important role from 1999 to 2018. In 2016, Forbes magazine named her one of the most powerful women in the world.
Early Life and Career
Sun Yafang studied hard and earned her bachelor's degree in 1982. She went to the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). After college, she started her career as a technician at a TV factory called Xin Fei TV Manufactory.
In 1985, she became an engineer at the Beijing Research Institution of Communication Technology. Before joining Huawei, Sun worked for a government department that focused on communication technology.
Joining Huawei
Sun Yafang started working at Huawei in 1989. Huawei is a global company that makes phones, network equipment, and other technology. She quickly moved up in the company. By 1999, she became the Chairwoman of Huawei. This meant she was in charge of leading the company's board of directors.
She served as Chairwoman for nineteen years. In March 2018, Huawei changed its leadership system. They started having different leaders take turns running the company. Sun Yafang stepped down from her role as Chairwoman and Liang Hua took over.
Awards and Recognition
Sun Yafang has received several important awards for her work. In May 2012, she was given the World Telecommunication and Information Society Award. This award came from the International Telecommunication Union, which is a special agency of the United Nations. It recognizes people who have made big contributions to communication technology.
In 2014, Forbes magazine also recognized her influence. They listed her as one of the most powerful women in the world.
