Sunshine Biscuits was an Australian company that made delicious biscuits. Their main factory was located in Albert Park, a suburb of Victoria. They were known for making high-quality biscuits and other sweet treats.
History of Sunshine Biscuits
How It Started
Sunshine Biscuits began in 1854. It was founded by a person named James Long. The company grew over the years, making many popular biscuits.
In 1917, another company called William Crosby and Co. bought Sunshine Biscuits. After James Long passed away, his son, T.P. Long, took over the business. In 1921, the company's official name changed to Sunshine Biscuit and Confectionery Pty Ltd.
Challenges and Changes
The factory faced some tough times. It was damaged by fire twice. The first fire happened on March 7, 1923. Another fire occurred on January 22, 1939.
In 1947, Sunshine Biscuit Co. joined with another company, George Farmer and Co. Together, they formed a new company called the Ballarat Products Company.
The company's name changed a few more times. In 1962, it became Sunshine Biscuits again. Then, in 1972, it changed to Sunshine Australia.
The Final Years
Sunshine Australia continued making biscuits for many years. Before it closed down, the company had an agreement with United Biscuits. This allowed them to make popular McVitie biscuits at their factory in Ballarat.
Sadly, Sunshine Australia stopped making biscuits in 1991.
