Why is it called the Supporters Range?

The name "Supporters Range" was given by a group of New Zealand explorers and scientists in 1961–62. They chose this name because many of the mountains in the range are named after people who helped fund or support the famous Ernest Shackleton's British Antarctic Expedition. This expedition, also known as the Nimrod Expedition, took place between 1907 and 1909. These supporters were important because their help made it possible for the explorers to go on their amazing journey to Antarctica.

Mount Iveagh: A Tall Peak

One of the most notable mountains in the Supporters Range is Mount Iveagh. This impressive peak stands 3,422 meters (11,227 feet) tall. It is located on the eastern side of the Beardmore Glacier.

Explorers from the British Antarctic Expedition discovered Mount Iveagh. They named it after Edward Guinness, 1st Earl of Iveagh. He was a very important person from the famous Guinness company. Edward Guinness provided a lot of money to help pay for Shackleton's expedition. Without his support, the expedition might not have happened.
