Susan Shantz began her career teaching at York University and Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario. During this time, she also had many solo art shows, where her work was displayed by itself.

In 1990, she moved to Saskatoon to work at the University of Saskatchewan. She continued to create and show her art there. In 1996, she participated in a special outdoor sculpture project at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery.

Today, Susan Shantz is a Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, where she teaches Sculpture and Extended Media. She also led the Department of Art and Art History from 2007 to 2013.
