Suzette Mayr is a Canadian author who writes amazing novels. She has written six books that people really love. She also teaches at the University of Calgary in Canada. Her books have won and been nominated for many important awards.

About Suzette Mayr
Suzette Mayr was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. When she first started college, she thought about studying science. But she was very good at English, so she decided to change her path.
A class about creative writing at the University of Calgary helped her choose to become a writer. She earned a special degree in English there. Later, she got more degrees in creative writing from the University of Alberta and the University of New South Wales.
Before becoming a full-time writer, Suzette Mayr worked different jobs, like being a waitress. She has written six novels, including Moon Honey and The Sleeping Car Porter. She has also published poetry and helped edit a book of stories.
Her books have been nominated for many awards. Today, she teaches creative writing and modern literature at the University of Calgary. Suzette Mayr has a German and Afro-Caribbean background. She often writes about identity and different cultures in her books. She uses humor and cool, dream-like ideas in her stories.
Her Book: The Sleeping Car Porter (2022)
The Sleeping Car Porter is a book Suzette Mayr published in 2022. It tells the story of R.T. Baxter, a Black Canadian man who works on a train. He is a porter, which means he helps passengers on the train.
This book was named one of the top ten fiction books of 2022 by Publishers Weekly. It also won a very important award called the Giller Prize in 2022.
In 2023, The Sleeping Car Porter was considered for the first Carol Shields Prize for Fiction. It was also a finalist for the Governor General's Award for English-language fiction.

Suzette Mayr used to be the president of the Writers Guild of Alberta. This is a group for writers in Alberta. In 2010, she helped choose the winner for the Dayne Ogilvie Prize. This award is for new writers in Canada.
