Handbollsligan is the top league for women's handball in Sweden. It's where the best teams compete to become champions. The league started a long time ago in 1951. Back then, it was called Elitserien. The first team to win was Kvinnliga IK Sport.
The league has 12 teams. At the end of each season, the top eight teams get to play in the playoffs. These playoffs are exciting games that decide who goes to the final. The winner of the final match becomes the Swedish champion. This champion team also gets a chance to play in a big European competition called the EHF Women's Champions League.
A team called IK Sävehof has been very successful in the league's history. They have won the championship 17 times! The league's name has changed a few times. From 2016 to 2023, it was known as Svensk Handbollselit. Now, it's called Handbollsligan, just like the men's league.

How the League Works
The Handbollsligan season is split into two main parts. First, all 12 teams play against each other. This is called the regular season. Teams earn points for winning games.
Playoffs and the Final Match
After the regular season, the top eight teams move on to the playoffs. The playoffs are like a tournament. Teams play against each other in a series of matches.
- Quarterfinals: The first round has eight teams. They play a "best-of-five" series. This means the first team to win three games moves on.
- Semifinals: The four winning teams play another "best-of-five" series.
- Final: The two teams that win their semifinals play in one big final match. The team that wins this single game becomes the Swedish champion!
