About Svetlana Sorokina
Svetlana Sorokina was born on January 15, 1957, in Pushkin, a town near Saint Petersburg, Russia. She studied at the Saint Petersburg State Forestry University.
Her Career in Television and Radio
Svetlana started her career in television in 1987 in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg). From 1988 to 1990, she hosted a popular TV show called 600 seconds.
She worked for several major Russian television channels. These included the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, NTV, TV-6, and Channel One Russia.
From September 2005, Svetlana also co-hosted a weekly radio show. This show was called In a circle of light and aired on the Echo of Moscow station. From September 2006, she co-hosted it with Yuri Kobaladze.
Later, from April to December 2015, she hosted her own talk show. This show was called Sorokina and was broadcast on the Dozhd channel.
Her Work for Society
Svetlana Sorokina is a member of the Russian Television Academy. This group includes many important people in Russian television. She also teaches at the Higher School of Economics.
From 2009 to 2011, Svetlana was part of the Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights. This council advises the president on how to protect people's rights.
Personal Life
Svetlana Sorokina has a daughter named Tonya. She became Tonya's foster mother in July 2003.
Awards and Recognition
Svetlana Sorokina has received several important awards for her work.
- In 1993, she was given the Order "For Personal Courage". This award recognizes bravery and dedication.
- She is also a three-time winner of the TEFI award. This is one of the most important awards in Russian television. She won it in 1996, 2000, and 2005.
