Sviatoslav III Vsevolodovich of Vladimir (Russian: Святослав III Всеволодович) was an important prince in early Russian history. He was born on March 27, 1196, and passed away on February 3, 1252. Sviatoslav served as the Prince of Novgorod for two periods (1200–1205 and 1207–1210). Later, he became the Grand Prince of Vladimir-Suzdal from 1246 to 1248.
Sviatoslav III Vsevolodovich was the sixth son of a powerful ruler named Vsevolod the Big Nest and his wife, Maria Shvarnovna.

Early Life and Family
Sviatoslav grew up as one of many sons of Grand Prince Vsevolod. His father was a very important leader who ruled a large area. Before Vsevolod died, he divided his lands among his sons. This was a common way to pass on power.
After his father's death, a conflict known as the Vladimir-Suzdal war of succession broke out. This was a fight among the brothers for control over the lands. Sviatoslav received the town of Yuriev-Polsky as his share.
Building a Landmark
In Yuriev-Polsky, Sviatoslav decided to build something special. He ordered the construction of the Cathedral of St. George. This beautiful church was built between 1230 and 1234. It became a very important building in the town.
Military Actions
Sviatoslav also led military campaigns. In 1220, he attacked the city of Aşlı, which was part of Volga Bulgaria. This showed his role as a military leader in the region.
Reign as Grand Prince
Sviatoslav III's time as Grand Prince of Vladimir was quite short. It did not involve many major events.
Losing Power
In 1248, his nephew, Mikhail Khorobrit of Moscow, took control of the city of Vladimir. This was against the usual rules for who should rule next. Mikhail forced Sviatoslav to leave Vladimir and go back to Yuriev-Polsky.
Seeking Support
Two years later, Sviatoslav and his son traveled to the Golden Horde. The Golden Horde was a powerful Mongol empire that controlled many lands at that time. Sviatoslav went there to ask the Khan, their leader, to help him get his position as Grand Prince back.
Death
Sviatoslav III Vsevolodovich passed away on February 3, 1252. He was buried in the town of Yuriev-Polsky, the place where he had built the famous Cathedral of St. George.
