Swiss Alp, Texas facts for kids
Swiss Alp is a small, quiet place located in the southern part of Fayette County, in the state of Texas, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it's a settlement that doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county.
The History of Swiss Alp
Swiss Alp was first settled around 1865. The people who came to live there were mostly German settlers. Many of them were also Lutheran, which is a type of Christian faith.
Building the Church
Between 1889 and 1890, the people living in Swiss Alp worked together to build a church. They called it the United Evangelical Lutheran Church. This church is very special because it is the second oldest Lutheran church group, or congregation, in all of Texas. It shows how important faith and community were to the early settlers of Swiss Alp.
