About Sydney Schneider
Her Early Life
Sydney Schneider was born on August 31, 1999. She grew up in Dayton, New Jersey, which is part of South Brunswick, New Jersey. Sydney went to South Brunswick High School.
Playing in College
In February 2017, Sydney decided to play college soccer. She joined the UNC Wilmington Seahawks team. In her first year, she played every minute of all 19 games. This was a big achievement for a goalkeeper at her school. In 2019, she was named the best goalkeeper in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).

Starting Her Professional Career
Sydney was chosen by the Washington Spirit team in the 2021 NWSL Draft. This was a big step in her professional career.
Playing in Europe
In January 2023, Sydney moved to Europe. She signed with Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic. This team plays in the top women's league there. She signed a new contract in May 2023 to stay for the 2023–24 season.
Back in the United States
On January 29, 2024, Sydney returned to the United States. She signed a one-year contract with the National Women's Soccer League club Chicago Red Stars.
Later, on February 25, 2025, Sydney joined the USL Super League team, Tampa Bay Sun. This is her current team.
Playing for Her Country
Choosing Her National Team
Sydney had a special choice for which country to play for. She could play for the United States, where she was born. She could also play for Germany, where her biological father was born. Or, she could play for Jamaica, where her mother's parents were born.
In 2015, she first turned down playing for Jamaica's Under-17 team. But in 2016, she accepted and played for Jamaica in the 2016 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship.
Playing for Jamaica's Youth Teams
Sydney also played for Jamaica's Under-20 team. She played in all three group games at the 2018 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship.
Playing for the Senior Jamaican Team
Sydney was chosen to be on the Jamaican senior squad in 2018. This team played in the 2018 CONCACAF Women's Championship. In one important game against Costa Rica, Sydney was named the best player. She made many amazing saves. Her great saves helped Jamaica win 1–0 against a higher-ranked team.
Sydney was also the first-choice goalkeeper for Jamaica at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. In her first World Cup game against Brazil, she saved a penalty kick! Even though Jamaica lost the game, Sydney played a very important role.
Sydney's Family Background
Sydney comes from a family with different backgrounds. Her biological father is German. Her mother was born in the United States, but her parents were from Jamaica. Her stepfather is of Greek descent.
